Summer Hair and Makeup Tips!

8:19 PM

Though summer is sadly half way over, I thought it would be nice to talk about ways to make your makeup last throughout the day, even with the humidity and sweat you're bound to be facing. Along with makeup tips, I thought it would be nice to include some hair tips as well.

This summer has been hotter than usual where I live, and I think that's mostly true all around the US. Probably even all around the world because hey, global warming is a thing. Because of this unusual heat, I wasn't sure what I should be doing about my makeup or my hair. I was torn between wanting to feel pretty and wanting to stay cool. Believe it or not, both are possible! Just don't expect to be as "glam" as you could be in the fall or winter time.

Through trial and error, I've found some things that seemed to work well for me. Though what works well for me, may not be what's best for someone else, so take these tips with a grain of salt and alter them to better fit your needs. Without further ado, let's get into the tips!

Finding the right makeup for you personally can be hard for anyone, add changing seasons to the mix and it's as if you have to start this process all over multiple times a year, which is pretty much true. As the seasons change, so should your makeup routine! Your skin reacts differently to the changing weather, so you should try to find products that will aid your skins weaknesses. What works for you in the winter may not work for you in the summer.

The biggest makeup tip for summer is to keep things light! Heavy foundations are just going to make you feel even hotter. Go for a BB or CC creme instead of your regular liquid or cream foundation. Use concealer to take care of any spots that you feel need a little extra coverage.

Waterproof mascara is a must. Whether you're going to the beach or pool, or just running errands around town, waterproof mascara will be your best friend. It will hold the curl in your lashes better, and isn't going to budge with water or sweat. Yay for not looking like a raccoon!

Prime and set! Priming your face will make a huge difference in your foundation. There are even more priming options at the drugstore now, so it's not only a luxury item anymore! When applying the primer, let it sit by itself for a couple of minutes to really allow time for it to sink into your skin, and then apply the BB or CC cream on top of it. This will help it last longer throughout the humidity and heat. After applying your face makeup, make sure you set it with a powder! The powder will absorb the oils on your face, making the foundation stay in place rather than sliding around your face.

Summer is the time for light, fresh looking makeup. But that doesn't mean you can't go full on glam if you want!

Humidity can wreak havoc on your hair! No one likes their hair to look a frizzy hot mess, am I right? I have a little trick to help those pesky flyaways.
Dryer sheets! I know this may sound crazy, but trust me it works! Just take a dryer sheet and gently run it through your hair. This will help take the static electricity out so you won't have such a frizzy hairstyle. An added bonus is that if you have scented dryer sheets, your hair will smell super fresh!

Dry shampoo will be your saving grace! During summer, I highly recommend taking your showers at night. This way, your hair can air dry so you won't have to use more heat by blow drying. In the morning, add a little dry shampoo to freshen up your hair so it feels as if you had washed it just that second.

If you're anything like me, you can't stand to have so much hair covering your neck in the heat. I have super thick hair, and I feel like my skin can't breathe when it's being covered by my hair in the winter. Because of this, I use summer to test out some cute new up-do's. Most up-do's take no time at all, but make it look like you've spent hours on your hair, so you end up looking more put together. Give it a try!

These tips aren't revolutionary, but a lot of people don't actually know about them. Do you have any other tips for summer? Leave them in the comments below! I'd love to hear how you guys beat the heat during the summertime.

Until next time!
xoxo
